Biography
Juan Carlos Perdomo is a postdoctoral fellow at MIT, hosted by Sendhil Mullainathan, and will join New York University as an assistant professor of computer science and data science in the fall of 2026. His research focuses on the foundations of machine learning systems that make predictions or decisions about people. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from UC Berkeley, where he was co-advised by Peter Bartlett and Moritz Hardt, and his B.A. in CS and Math from Harvard. Before MIT, he was a CRCS Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard where he was hosted by Cynthia Dwork.
He is from San Juan, Puerto Rico where he was on the national sailing team. He won youth world championships at the under-17, 19, and 21 levels and represented Puerto Rico at the 2014 Central American Games and the 2015 Pan American Games. He also worked on the design team during Emirates Team New Zealand's winning campaign for the 35th America's Cup in Bermuda.
